Illustrator & Writer

About & Contact

Hi, I’m Jo — a writer and illustrator based in the New Forest.

I started life as a lawyer (LSE, London, the whole suit-and-commute shenanigans), but moved back to the forest after having my first baby — then another, and another. Somewhere in the chaos I co-wrote the Scots Gaelic feature film Seachd, which was nominated for three Scottish BAFTAs, including Best Screenplay.

Since then, I’ve co-founded a film festival, researched for public art commissions and now spend my days writing children’s books and drawing small things with big feelings. My current work includes picture books, middle grade stories and a YA novel — all rooted in warmth, wit and a slightly sideways view of the world.

I also run a weekly book group at our local primary school, volunteer for carer-based-charitable-endeavours and try to hold down a daily illustration and writing habit.
